People who try to manipulate him Habits: Pacing when he's considering something. Smokes cigarettes. History: Parents Raphael and Regina. Ro is their firstborn and was supposed to be their only child. However, when he was 5 years old he was taken very ill with dragon pox and his parents realised that they might lose their precious heir. So they decided to have "a spare", a second son, just in case. Rabastan was born when Ro was 6½ years old. He loved him from the first moment he saw him and immediately took to protecting him and eventually teaching him everything he knew. His father, Raphael, started teaching Ro Dark Arts before sending him to Hogwarts and found a willing pupil. Ro still likes to study Dark Arts and is interested in any new books and research he can find. Once at Hogwarts he was sorted into Slytherin. He excelled at DADA, not surprising really as he already knew the subject he was supposed to defend himself against. He also took easily to Transfiguration and liked to practice it both at Hogwarts and at home transfiguring whatever he could get his hands on - which got him in some trouble with his father. When he graduated he went into his father's business with dealing in antiques - a business he had grown up with - and he took control of it when his father passed away. While he has been in Azkaban his wife has taken care of the business. Raphael was one of the first Death Eaters (see HBP - Slughorn's memory. There's a Lestrange among Riddle's "friends") and as such he expected his son to become a Death Eater as well. Ro obliged with his father's wish. Becoming a Death Eater was to him the obvious choice as he believed that Purebloods are superior and therefore should naturally be the ruling class, something he was willing to fight for to achieve. He also discovered a use for his childhood "hobby" of practising Dark Arts on people and loved spreading fear. He has very little - if any - understanding and patience for purebloods who do not agree that they are the superior race. Shortly after Christmas 1976, he gave in to his parents' constant insistance that he should marry and produce an heir and made the perfect Pureblood match by marrying Bellatrix Black. Their marriage was the result of an agreement. They were both interested in leading an independent life but at the same time both also wanted to have a child. Almost a year later their son was born. Ro still considers the first time he held his son as one of the happiest moments of his life. When Voldemort disappeared Bellatrix was frantic to find him and she persuaded Ro to go with her to interrogate the Longbottoms. They were captured. Ro still hasn't forgiven Bellatrix for that. In order to ensure that Nathair had at least one parent while growing up Rodolphus insisted during their trial that he had used the Imperius curse on Bellatrix and that she was in fact innocent. As it turned out it was almost more difficult persuading Bellatrix to go along with this lie than it was persuading the Wizengamot. She was acquitted and Rodolphus went to Azkaban along with the others. His time in Azkaban is one he'd rather forget. The fact that he hasn't been there to watch his son grow up pains him like nothing else. He tries to make up for the lost time even though he knows that that will never be possible. January 1995 marked a sudden change in his life when a huge explosion rocked the foundation of Azkaban and opened a wide gap in the wall. The attack was carried out by three Death Eaters along with some helpers and some unwitting Imperiused Muggles to draw the attention of the Dementors and guards. Several of the cells had been more or less damaged at the impact and Rodolphus, along with his brother Rabastan, his friend Rookwood and a few others, were able to escape their cells. Some of the prisoners were captured during their attempted escape but Ro, Rab and Rook managed to escape. | |||||||||
